To help stop the spread of Coronavirus the government has enforced a National Lockdown, in order for this lockdown to be successful, our actions and behaviours also need to be modified to stop the spread of coronavirus and to keep you and others around you safe.
What can you do to mitigate the spread of the virus?
Everyone is advised stay at home unless it is permitted under one of the exemptions. If you do need to go out, you need to avoid close contact with anyone that does not live with you, this is called social distancing.
Please ensure wherever possible you maintain at least a 2 metre distance between you and any member of the public.
What are the hygiene practices should I follow to reduce the risk of
getting COVID-19?
To stop the spread of Covid-19 it is important to understand that good hygiene practices can greatly minimise the risk of you and others around you from contracting coronavirus.
- Handwashing : Please wash hands thoroughly, it is advised to wash them with either soap and water, you should aim for a minimum of 20 seconds , or use some alcohol based sanitiser. This will ensure that the virus is eradicated from your hands.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Our hands come into contact with many surfaces where the virus can live. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and infect you.
- Cover your mouth and nose, try to always use a tissue when you cough or sneeze. The tissue needs to be discarded immediately into a closed bin and then follow the hand hygiene practice as above.
- Disinfect surfaces with an antibacterial spray or detergent, clean those surfaces which are more frequently exposed to human contact.
- Wear a mask when you go out.
The World Health Organisation advise everyone to adhere to the following protocol when putting on a mask.
- Clean your hands before you put your mask on, as well as before and after you take it off, and after you touch it at any time.
- Make sure it covers both your nose, mouth and chin.
- When you take off a mask, store it in a clean plastic bag, and every day either wash it if it’s a fabric mask, or dispose of a medical mask in a bin.
- Don’t use masks with valves.
